The Past of Wheat Ridge

In 1859, a group of prospectors established Wheat Ridge. Wheat Ridge was originally a farming community that provided food and other goods to Denver and the surrounding mining towns. The locals of Whest Ridge got their moniker from the abundance of wheat fields in the area. Annexation from neighboring counties prompted Wheat Ridge’s incorporation as a city in August of 1969.
